One of the major myths that you have probably heard from the media is that Eric and Dylan were apart of a group called the “Trench Coat Mafia”. The myth began when Eric and Dylan were wearing trench coats the day of the shooting. Eric and Dylan weren’t wearing the trench coats because they were in the gang, they were wearing them because it could hold all of their knives , guns, and weapons. Most of the people in the Trench Coat Mafia had already graduated from high school. In late 1999, after the shooting happened, some of the Trench Coat Mafia members had came forward and told the media some information explaining to us that Eric and Dylan weren’t in the gang. The media putting out that Eric and Dylan were in the Trench Coat Mafia caused people to make stereotypes on future school shooters. …show more content…

I’m assuming most of these people had comments on the gang. Students at Columbine after the shooting were probably scared of the gang, since they thought two of their gang members had shot up their school. The gangs ‘’description” was they were loners who played violent video games such as ‘’Doom’’ and listened to Marilyn Manson. There was approximately twenty-one students in the TCM, they were all investigated, and gave information about Eric and Dylan. The information some of the members gave, explained how Eric and Dylan associated with some of the members of the gang. The Trench Coat Mafia had grown a public perception, from the world when the event appeared in the news. People generally thought that the gang was associated with other gangs and violence. There were stereotypes about the gang, like how they were dark goth people. They weren’t goth they just wore black trench coats and they were different from the people you would regularly see at
