Reader Response Journal – Quiz 4 Trickster Myths Comparison Tricksters play a key role in many cultures beliefs. These tricksters have tattooed their folktales and stories inside of their region and families. A Tricksters behavior and decisions fall into a group of fundamental aspects that define who and what they are. These tricksters from different background and ethnicities can be compared to one another. There are Tricksters whom have the same fundamental aspects. The Ghana and West Africa and the Nigeria and Benin Tricksters share similarities and have differences. Deceitfulness is apparent in Anaanu and Aja. Anaanu made up a story involving his make believe friend, and lied about having an argument that pertained to each of these animals. Aja lied and pretended that he was sick and on his death bed. He knew the Oba or someone would seek out and look for him because Ajapa, his friend had went too far while stealing yams from the farmers. Aja stole with Ajapa, but he refused to tell the truth when questioned by the farmers and Oba. Anaanu and Ajapa were both greedy individuals. The Spider was so greedy and stuck on himself becoming a celebrity that he wanted more popularity than God. Ajapa displays his greed when he attempted to steal too many yams from the farmer. He gathered and pulled more yams than he could carry down the road. Ajapa’s greed is why he was caught stealing. Anaanu and Aja both have fundamental aspect similarities. They are both lazy and mischief makers. Aja and Ajapa were thieves.
