Trimalchio Gatherings
Trimalchio was a former slave who worked hard to buy his freedom and his wife’s freedom. The former slave wanted to go through slavery to become a Roman citizen and afterwards earning his freedom. In the reading, he talks on how he worked hard for his fortunate and how he chose slavery (Petronius 2). He had great power along with his wealth and luxurious lifestyle. For example, Giton and his bride where in the wedding chambers when Trimalchio arrived a requested to Giton. One of the Agamemnon slave that told Giton that Trimalchio had request Gitons presents. Niceros was a slave at the time and his master went to off the sale something in Capua. While wanting to go see his girlfriend who didn’t live close enough for him to walk along. He got someone to go with him that was a soldier and the man was brave. They were traveling during the night while the moon was full and the stars were shining bright. While they continue to walk under the moonlight they ended up in a cemetery. The solider had to urinate so Niceros just continue to walk. Then Niceros notice that the soldier had taken his clothes off and started to urinate a circle around the clothes (Petronius 2). Instantly the soldier turned into a wolf and started howling at the moon and ran off into the woods. Niceros tried to pick up the soldier’s clothes, but the clothes just turned into stone. So Niceros pulled out his sword to protect himself and ran to his girlfriend’s house. Soon as the sun started to rise the next morning Niceros left his girlfriend’s house and headed back home. On his way home, he noticed that the soldier’s clothes that had turn into stone and left a blood spot and when he got home he found the solider asleep in bed.
