It is very easy to think that Wal-Mart has always been the retail giant in the industry. However; like any company, it was once a small shop called 5&10 in Bentonville, Arkansas. Sam Walton also known as Mr. Sam knew early on that if he followed his famous slogan, "If we work together, we’ll lower the cost of living for everyone…we’ll give the world an opportunity to see what it’s like to save and have a better life.”, (Farfan, 2017) Walmart’s strategy is like no other within the United States. According to NPR podcast, “Walmart’s Pickle”, Walton would use lawn chairs that suppliers would leave as samples and Walton would turn around and use them as equipment in their …show more content…

This new initiative was a defensive strategy that makes Walmart an actual desirable shopping experience. One Wal-Mart customer stated, “This is easy. Time is money,” said Sacco, 47, as a worker loaded bags into his SUV on a recent morning, (Reuters, 2017).
Another example of defensive strategy that Walmart is moving towards is meeting the customer needs by rethinking stored and new ideas with customer’s real life stories and experiences. They just opened two new test stores in Tomball, Texas, and Lake Nona, Florida.
