In the book Of Mice and Men, two men are traveling around California to find work during the Great Depression. They have known each other for a very long time because Lennie’s Aunt Clara wanted George to look after him. George, the leader, is the person who chooses where they go and work. Lennie just simply follows along and does the work. Lennie has a mental disability that causes him to forget things quickly, not talk properly, and do things that a normal man wouldn’t do.
Complex Friendships are Complex Most people have all watched that movie or show where the not so bright kids becomes friends with the smart one. Where they work through their differences and unite in the end. In Of Mice and Men, two characters, Lennie and George, have a special kind of friendship. Even though they get frustrated with each other, they do bring out the best qualities in each other.
There are many really great themes in the book Of Mice and Men. The thematic subject is friendship/companionship. The theme this book portrays the most will deal with the character Lennie Small. In John Steinbeck’s story, Of Mice and Men shows that friends stay together until the end. The first reason why I believe the theme I chose is correct because in the story George tells Lennie to stay with him even though Lennie is a bother to him.
John Steinbeck depicts isolation very well in his book “Of Mice and Men”. He portrays the need for companionship as well. John Steinbeck shows isolation and the need for companionship through setting, relationships, and characterization in his book, “Of Mice and Men”. In the novel of “Of Mice and Men” power and friendship is the very bases of the story. There are many people with power in the book but I specifically was interested in Curley’s power. Curley is the son of the Ranch’s boss and he is very spoiled. He does not listen to rules and usually gets away with any trouble he makes or gets into.
In “Of Mice and Men”, Steinbeck is writing about loyalty and friendship. George was very loyal to Lennie even after all of Lennies scandalous acts, Curley had wanted to make sure that his wife is safe, and another example would be that Candy’s dog was Cany’s best friend. Although Lennie and George had their differences, their friendship and loyalty towards each other shines throughout the story. Lennie had said “You said I was your cousin!” and George had replied with “That was a lie.

In the story George and Lennie have been kicked out of the town Weed because of an incident that happened to Lennie in weed Ultimately, George stays with Lennie through thick and thin while on the ranch miles ahead from Weed. Lennie appears to have trouble there on the ranch he kills the boss's son’s wife and kills a puppy that was given to him. Friendship is extremely important in the novel because in John Steinbeck's book Of Mice and Men he uses the struggles of friendship to illustrate the difficulties for the migrant workers' survival during the 1930’s. George is a character that display friendship by caring for Lennie in the book Of Mice and Men.
The Death of a Friendship By definition, murder is the unlawful killing of a person by another person. However, the difference between a murder and a mercy killing is not easily defined, as proven in Of Mice and Men. The novella, written by John Steinbeck, takes place in the 1930s. This era was full of hardship and untrustworthiness.
The Literature piece Of Mice and Men was focusing more on friendship and how strong it could be. It pointed out that friendship is based on caring and loyalty, like the friendship that was between George and Lennie, and the friendship that was between Candy and his dog. This theme was first presented when George said, ‘“Lennie, for God’ sakes don’t drink so much….. You gonna be sick like you was last night”’ (Steinbeck Chapter 1).
In John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men, the era of the Great Depression in the 1930’s is revealed through a simple story of ranch workers who hope to improve their lives. Migrant workers, George and Lennie, have a friendship that is based on trust and protection. The other workers lack the companionship and bond that these two men have. In the novel, the absence and presence of friendship is the motivation for the characters’ actions.
The Essence of Friendship Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan (Sully) are two very well-known characters in Disney’s beloved 2001 film, Monsters Inc. Their inseparable bond and devotion to one another inspires audiences by representing the value of a true and loyal friend. These monsters show that size, background, and capability differences should not be barriers in a strong, lasting friendship.
The theme of friendship in the novel, Of Mice and Men is “friendship is necessary for human survival.” The theme is explored within the adventures of Georgia and Lennie. So, I think that the theme is true for both George and Lennie. In the novel on page 15, Lennie says,” But not us! An’ why?

In John Steinbeck's novel Of Mice and Men there are a lot of themes. The themes consist of friendship, loneliness, discrimination and dreams. All of these themes are important, and play immense role in the outcome at the end. The major theme is that friends stick together; unconditionally; this is demonstrated through Lennie and George's actions in Weed, in the bunk house, and in the aftermath of Curly's wife's death. One example of true friends sticking together is exemplified when George stays with Lennie after Lennie's actions in Weed.
