Infidelity is defined as anything that breaches a committed intimate relationship. A broken promise that would refrain a person from reaming faithful to their sexual partner. That promise can be anything up as long as it was a private verbal agreement between two partners. Infidelity brings up the topic of forgiveness and anger. Adults may have a difficult time dealing with these circumstances, however children can feel these intense feeling as well. Children of parents who have been unfaithful to each other often react with intense feelings of anger, guilt, sadness, and confusion. They may act out based off these emotions or feel withdrawal from the family. They may want to feel as if they need to win back love from the unfaithful parent or have to take the role that parent left behind. When a child learns about their parent’s infidelity, their concept of trust may change. They may find it difficult to trust someone in the future that show affection. That person in their eyes may lie to them, abandon them, or reject them similar to what their parents did. A child can develop a mistrust for the specific gender similar to the parent who did the infidelity. A child may jump into conclusion can believe marriage is viewed as an illusion and only cause trouble. A child can feel anger and uncertainty for the parent who participate in the infidelity. When the infidelity is what defines the parent, a child often feels emotions and anger. They yearn for their parents’ love, but may feel like they will never have it due to the fact that parents did not keep their love for each other. These mixed feelings of emotions may cause child behavior disorders.
