In Ryan Holiday’s book, Trust Me I’m Lying, Holiday was once the man behind the computer manipulating the media. Holiday mentions several different techniques to manipulate the media used by himself as well as other current media outlets. He is an activist because he exposes them since he has seen the effects of them. A few techniques that Holiday exploits are fake news, clickbait, and trading up the chain. By coming out to the public and exposing this racket, Holiday is bringing a change to the media. A common technique that is used by many different blog websites is fake news. In order to keep up with audience they have accumulated the bloggers need to publish as frequently as possible. Most bloggers just make up a fake story to keep the traffic of the website. A particular example from the book is when Holiday had created fake news. He needed to get some information during a lawsuit to the public. Holiday leaked a memo and it was posted as exclusive. Clickbait is when an headline is mostly irrelevant to the article. It draws the reader's attention to click on the article, but the article is based of a little fact or rumor. Holiday explains how it is used among various blog sites to gather pageviews. In order for the blog site to make money they have advertisements (ads) which generate money with each view. For the blogger to get paid, the bloggers create clickbait titles to generate pageviews and ad views. The more page views translates to more money.
