Tulane University offers several academic, extracurricular, and community service opportunities that interest and appeal to me. In particular, the unique Homeland Security Studies major, an ideology focused and dedicated to community service, and an exciting one-of-a-kind environment all contribute to my interest in Tulane University. I am thoroughly interested in Homeland Security and in the overall field of National Security. At Tulane, I would be lucky to attend a school that offers such a rare Homeland Security major. My curiosity in national security really sparked this past July, when I attended a National Student Leadership Conference (NSLC) in National Security at American University. At this conference, I took a class and participated in mock security councils. I learned everything from the precautions the government makes in order to prevent a terrorist attack to the roles of each of the National Security Council members. I am very interested in the law, and have participated on my high school’s mock trial team as the co-captain for the past 2 years. I am also very curious about the decisions and laws our government makes and the consequences that follow, either positive or negative. My favorite paper I have written in high school was focused on Prohibition, an example of a decision that the United States government made that had only negative consequences. The combination of my legal and policymaking interests makes this course an absolute perfect fit for me.
