“GRAHHHH, guns…drugs…violence.. murder…!!!” This is what most people believe black rap music consists of. Although this is true to an extent, it reinforces stereotypic and derogatory perceptions. Famous Black Artist, Tupac proves this point of mine. Tupac Shakur was a black artist, activist, actor, poet, and philosopher who was mainly known for his “gangsta rap” style. By “gangsta rap” I mean his rap was related to his ghetto life on the streets. Sadly, Tupac died at the age of 25, on September 13, 1996, by a Compton Gang (Compton Ca) called the Southside Crips. Through his lyrics, Tupac discusses these issues and how “changes” are needed. In “Changes”, Tupac talks about the racism he faced and the “...misplaced hate” that “makes disgrace to races” (Changes.) Tupac raps about these racial realities before discussing how ignorant the Blacks are. To discuss the difference of rights between whites and blacks, Tupac brings up his Black Ghetto friends. He discusses how as a black they have a lot to deal with, and how “ain’t nobody got it like this.” (White Manz World). Tupac’s lyrics regarding the difference of lives between Blacks and everyone else show his important message regarding the realities Blacks lived in at the time. At the song’s time, Tupac’s time, Blacks had to deal with a lot, and didn’t have it the same way as anyone else. In Tupac’s time, his present time, Blacks had to deal with a lot, whether that be White, Asian, or any other race, Blacks had to deal with a lot. Through his lyrics, Tupac discusses the realities Blacks faced at the time; Blacks had to deal with much more than anyone else, whether that be any race. Tupac’s lyrics regarding the difference between the lives of Blacks and everyone else, showing his true message at the time, Blacks had to deal with a
