The roaring 20’s was a time period of social reform as our society transformed from a rural to an urban society. Empire of mind is a modern song that was created in Year to show the growth and development of cities.Cities were full of entertainment and were quickly populated in the 1920’s. Technology helped to entertainment industry boom and we continue to utilize technology to our advantage. When we look at cities like New York we see the beauty, but we consciously understand the darkness that comes with it as well. The crime was big in the 1920s because people would abuse alcohol and gangsters arose from the prohibition of it. Discrimination was a major problem and Americans were tired of enduring mistreatment. Mainly race, religion, and gender were prosecuted for looking or being different. We shall not be moved was a song about heavily persecuted African Americans that refuse to give up hope. This song is about a specific group, but many groups experienced the same mistreatment. This song portrays the growth it took as a country to step past the limiting boundaries of society. The Civil Rights era transformed America into an equal country with equal opportunities. Eliza Millers felt like her life didn’t matter because of her skin color and her turmoil can be felt within this song. Her fight wasn't only because of her skin color, but it was because the world decided to limit traits that made her human. The woman fought for their rights and got them within the 19th Amendment. These moments of history transformed our society as a whole today discrimination still exists in America, but it is not at a social level as it was during the Civil Rights
