The title of the book that I read is Turn Right at Machu Picchu: Rediscovering the Lost City One Step at a Time by Mark Adams. It was written in 2011 and it is a non-fiction book. The book is a mix of actual history and Mark Adam’s experience when he went to Machu Picchu. For SOAPS the speaker is Mark Adams narrating his adventure in Peru. It took place in 2011 in the Andes mountains in Peru and it sometimes took place in the late 1800s to the early 1900s just to explain what Hiram Bingham did. The audience of the book is for anyone who is interested in historical, traveling, and adventure stories. It could have also been for the adventure magazine that Mark Adams worked for. Hiram Bingham was a Yale University history teacher that was in Cusco when he learned about a hidden city that the Incas went to after the Spanish conquistadors invaded. Mark Adams worked for an adventure magazine but he has never been in an adventure. He has gone to Peru many times before because his wife is from there but this time he wanted to retrace Hiram Bingham’s footsteps because it was going to be the 100th anniversary of when Hiram Bingham discovered Machu Picchu. Mark Adams was recommended to go with John Leivers because he is one of the best guides in South America. He wanted to retrace Bingham’s footsteps by hiking the Inca Trail to get the full experience but it would take a lot of time. They went with Juvenal Cobos and some other guys to help them with mules on their expedition, the six mules, and with Justo their cook. So they set off on their journey and they found out that it was harder than what they expected. The Inca trail that they walked on was very long, windy, really steep in some parts and really narrow in others. They also had to take oxygen tanks and coca leaves with them to help with high altitude sickness. They passed through other ancient
