The story of Romeo and Juliet had a devastating ending. This was the result of fate taking over, not a flaw of a character. Something beyond anyone's control, fate, eventually lead to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Friends, family, and enemies all have an important influence on how the story turned out. The main turning point in the play started with the marriage of Romeo and
Juliet. Days following the marriage a fight breaks out and Tybalt punctures Mercutio, unintentionally killing him. Romeo gets involved and stabs Tybalt, which subsequently led to
Romeo's banishment. Juliet eventually finds out and grieves over her dead cousin along with her banished husband. In the mess of all of this Juliet is suppose to be marring Paris, but Juliet …show more content…

From the very beginning of the story there was already conflict between families. Romeo and Juliet were born into families that didn't like each other from the start, which is a choice
Romeo and Juliet couldn't control, nor did it involve any actions Romeo and Juliet could have done throughout their lives. Montague recalls, "Thou villain Capulet! Hold me not. Let me go" (I.i.5). In the scene there is a fight taking place while Montague is saying the line, and the fight is with the Capulet family. There is already more tension between families resulting because of this fight, and creates a barrier between Romeo and Juliet's relationships that makes them do unnecessary actions to see each other in secrecy. Because of the feud between both families Romeo and Juliet's relationship is disapproved by both families, which makes them keep it a secret and resulting in consequences that could've been avoided if they weren't born into opposing families. The fight between Tybalt and Mercutio added more conflict between the families due to the fact that following that fight Romeo steps in after, and kills Tybalt, who is a member of the rival family. Romeo recalls, " Is but a little way above our heads/Staying for thine to keep him company./Either thou or I, or both, must go with him."(III.i.89-91). Romeo tells Tybalt either himself or Tyboly must join Mercutio in the afterlife. Because Tybalt killed Mercutio, Romeo became furious and chose to fight him. All of this would've been avoided if Tybalt had never killed Mercutio. This wasn't entirely Romeo's fault, he was just overcome with emotion due to one of his friends getting killed. Juliet's parents forced her to marry Paris, if they had just let her make a choice, she would've lived happily, and her life wouldn't have ended in death. Juliet recalls,"I pray you, tell my lord and father, madam,/I will not marry yet. And when I do, I swear/
It shall be Romeo"(III.v.120-123). Juliet says she doesn't want to marry Paris and begs not to make her marry him. If Juliet's parents had understood her and let her make her own choice, future events could've been avoided. A plan was made by Juliet to fake her death and runaway with Romeo. These extreme measures could've been prevented had her parents just listen to her.
