This scene begins with Antonio which is a sea captain, and Sebastian who is Viola’s twin brother. Antonio and Sebastian discuss why he is so sad, it is because he thinks his twin sister Viola is dead. Sebastian also tells Antonio, that if it was not for him rescuing him from the ocean he would have drowned just like his sister did. Antonio apologizes to Sebastian for not being able to better comfort him. Then Sebastian apologizes to Antonio for burdening him with his troubles. Antonio begs Sebastian to stay and let him be his servant, but when Sebastian does not reply to his request Antonio tells him that he does not want to cry like his mother always did, so he will be on his way to Duke Orsino’s court.
Scene 2 This scene begins back at Olivia’s place where Malvolio catches up with Cesario (Viola) asking him whether he was the one that was just at Olivia’s talking up the Duke. Curio apologizes to the Duke that Feste was not there to sing it, and that he might be over at Olivia’s because he used to work for her dad. The duke begins to give Viola some advice about love. He assumes that “Cesario” is in love, and he admits that he indeed is in love with someone about the same age as the duke. Orsino then assumes that he is love with an older women, and that is not a very good idea because women age very quickly. Feste enters and sings the Duke and song, after he finishes he brings up the fact that Olivia has been looking for Cesario. When Olivia is brought up the Duke begins to brag that no women can resist him. He then says that women are not capable of loving as much as he does, but Cesario disagrees and goes on to tell a story about his father’s daughter which we know is her.
