From the line “conceal me what I am” Viola makes the decision to disguise herself or as she says “conceal” herself. Therefore, this line is the root to all of the confusion and misinterpretation that is to occur soon in the play. She then says that “the form” of her “intent” it to “serve this duke.” The word “intent” is very important here because intent refers to someone’s purpose. The last line “Only shape thou thy silence to my wit” picks up even more on the word intent. However, there seems to be a little bit of a love triangle or as Viola calls it “a knot” that seems to be “too hard” to “t’untie.” Viola knows that Orsino is madly in love with Olivia and this is proven more in the line “My master loves her dearly”. In the line “poor monster, fond as much on him” it can be seen that Viola is just as in love with Orsino as he is with Olivia. The story gets even better with the line “And she, mistaken, seems to dote on me,” showing that Olivia is in love with Viola, disguised as Cesario. Therefore, Oliva is in love with Viola, Viola is in love with Orsino and Orsino is in love with Olivia. It is an absolute mess and that is why Viola says “O time, thou must untangle this, not I” ; she knows just how bad this whole mess is and that there really isn't any way to solve it. Viola was only using this job as a way to support herself until it was discovered what had happened to her brother. Therefore, she hide who she really was so that people would judge her differently.
