Everybody’s buying Fall Out Boy’s new album, American Beauty/American Pyscho. The Fall Out Boy boy band recently became very popular throughout America in 2014 when their song Centuries, started to hit the number 1 music charts. Originally a fairly popular band throughout the Alternative music industry, they quickly accumulated the attention of music listeners all around the world. The boys also began collaborating with singers like Wiz Khalifa and bands like Paramore or Panic!
From 2001 to today, Fall Out Boy has become one of the iconic teenage boy-bands. If you were to start playing it in a room full of females, there’s a 80% chance someone would start screaming. The legacy began in Illinois as a hard-core rock band, where Patrick Stump, Pete Wentz, and Joe Trohman (they went through a series of drummers before deciding on Andy Hurley) stood in Joe’s garage fishing for old, battered instruments. There they created their first album, Take This to Your Grave. Next, they produced From Under the Cork Tree, Infinity on High, and the flop of Folie a Deux, before they went on hiatus just to come back three years later and create Save Rock and Roll.
Pessimism ran high as I entered the Organ Recital Hall with low expectations due to my less than medium experience at the previous UCA concert I attended. On the contrary, the It Could Be Anything New Music Ensemble turned out to be a rather enjoyable experience. Directed by Dr. Wesley Ferreira and Professor Andrew Jacobson, the It Could Be Anything music ensemble featured the newer works of recent composers that embody the feeling of new music culture. The ensemble included various musicians and instruments, such as a violin, cello, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, and various percussion instruments. The Four songs featured in this performance were “New Year’s Harmattan” (2004), Robin Cox’s “Choros No. 7” (1924), Heitor Villa’s “Lobos” (1887-1959), and ending the performance was a shortened version of “Worker’s Union” (1975).
Cage the Elephant is an American alternative rock band established in 2006 in Kentucky before they quickly relocated to London where they produced their first studio album and their first platinum record, “Cage the Elephant”, in 2008 with their hit single Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked. After reaching a certain amount of notability the band soon developed a real name for themselves and became known as a mainstream modern rock band. Three years succeeding their debut album Cage the Elephant released their second album, “Thank You, Happy Birthday” with their song It’s Just Forever, featuring the singer Allison Mosshart, this song adds a new element to the band, the female perspective. From the same album emerged another song, Aberdeen, which discusses
Notoriety in the Charles Manson Trials In many cases and trials of the world, notoriety, or being famous from a bad quality or deed, affects many outcomes and verdicts. As more media and newsmen become familiar with famous cases, their articles are what capture the public’s attention, and what the public’s opinions of the trial are based on. This popularity of a trial can even help determine the future of the person that is accused of the crime.
The song I choose to analyze as poetry is J. Cole’s song “Hold It Down”. This song is from his mixtape The Warm Up, which is my favorite mixtape by him. This song is produced and written by J. Cole whose real name is Jermaine Lamarr Cole. He produces his own songs and writes them himself, which is one of the reasons why he is my favorite rapper. Whenever I am having a bad day, I always find myself listening to this song.
In the book Fahrenheit 451, the author Ray Bradbury uses the theme of dissatisfaction with life to show how people say they are satisfied even though they're not. Like how the citizens use technology to fill the gap even when it doesn't leave them fulfilled. To quote Guy's wife Mildred says” If we had a fourth wall it would be like this room wasn’t ours at all.” Why would she want another one if she was satisfied with her life?
Theme: Friendship Song: “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” – Randy Newman “You've got a friend in me. You got troubles then I got them too. We stick together, we can see it through cause you've got a friend in me.” Justification: This song relates to the relationship George and Lennie had because even though Lennie was always getting in trouble, George was beside him no matter what. Also, when they got to the ranch, Slim said to them that is not common to see such good friends like George and Lennie, who travel together and look out for each other.
The history of people of African descent within the United States is long with many highs and lows. In the early times of American history, thousands of Africans were bought to work on plantations in southeastern America. While the slaves were taken from their homes in Africa, their culture, especially their music, remained within them and was passed on from generation to generation. These people eventually created a specific type of music that helped many carry on with their work efficiently, helped them relieve the monotony of their job either while out in the cotton fields or working on the railroads, and allowed them to communicate with other slaves and express their emotions. This great form of music eventually would lead to the creation
Heartbreak Hotel is a song that was recorded by Elvis Presley and was written by a high school teacher named Mae Axton and a steel guitar player named Tommy Durden. It was recorded and released in January 1956 by RCA Studios. Elvis was only 21 and Heartbreak Hotel was his first song with the new record label RCA in Nashville, Tennessee. He recorded the song with his band the Blue moon boys. It was his first million-seller and the bestselling single of 1956.
Smash Mouth is a band whose career started in 1997. They gained loads of popularity during 2001 when their song “All Star” was featured on the dreamworks kids movie, “Shrek”. The hit song is a message to people who feel they aren’t good enough and that they should go and be the best they can be. The main line in the song is “Hey now, you’re an allstar, get your game on. Go play.”
In this paper I will be discussing “American Idiot” by Green Day as a protest song. A protest song, “is a song that is associated with a movement for social change and hence part of the broader category of topical songs or songs connected to current events” (Google, 2015). People who feel strongly towards a certain political view within society create protest songs, and this is the only way they know how to express their opinions. Protest songs can come in many different musical genres such as folk and rock music.
There have been many protest songs in the United States; the freedom of speech has contributed to powerful music and protest words that are written in song. The song that will be discussed throughout this essay is “American Idiot” by Green day. This song speaks volume about the uneducated “America” and puts emphasis on the destruction that reality television is making on the United States of America. Listening to the unspoken word and read between the lies, for that then you will understand. The song “American Idiot” was released during the 2004 presidential election, where George W. Bush was selected into office for the second term as President of the United States of America (source).
The song that I chose was “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield. It was released in 2004, and was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. It also hit number five on the Billboard Hot 100. Natasha Bedingfield has another popular song “Pocketful of Sunshine” and was really only popular in 2004-2006. You can find her songs on multiple 00’s playlists.
It’s difficult to pinpoint the precise moment one realizes they’re hopelessly in love. At this point, everything their partner does is absolutely intoxicating and one can’t get enough. It’s one’s heart’s ultimate desire to prove it to them. Nothing can match their partner’s ethereal beauty both inside and out. The only option left is vulnerability.
