Two Convictions: Did Sam Sheppard Get Away With Murder?
“I believe the question now is: Who murdered my mother?” Sam Reese Sheppard, asked the jury in his testimony during retrial of his father’s conviction for killing his mother. In earlier times, Marilyn Sheppard and her husband Dr. Sam Sheppard seem to be the perfect couple. They were rich, highly respected in their community, had a blossoming family, and an exclusive social lifestyle (Mayo 309). The Sheppard’s family was living a fairy tale life, but things are not always as they seem. Marilyn was violently beaten to death on a Sunday morning and all evidence pointed to her husband as her killer. Sam Sheppard did in fact kill his wife Marilyn Sheppard, as a closer look at crime scene evidence, infidelity accusations, and conflicting accounts of that night will prove.

Lady Houk was also named a suspect in the death of Marilyn. Cooper et al. reports, that during Eberling’s Testimony he tells the police that Sheppard told him that lady Houk killed Marilyn in a fit of jealous rage. He claims once the Sheppard’s guest left, lady Houk and her husband snuck over. Lady Houk intoxicated witness Marilyn and her husband hugging and went crazy. Eberling claim that Marilyn was having an affair with Houk and lady Houk killed Marilyn. Sam awoke and the three staged a cover up. Ester Houk could not have killed Marilyn. Other than the testimony from a known liar, and criminal there was no creditable evidence to tie lady Houk to the murder. Also, there was no witness of an affair with Marilyn and Houk. Therefore, there was no motive for lady Houk to kill Marilyn (Cooper et al.
