Genetics Today
1. The three divisions of genetics are population genetics, molecular genetics and transmission genetics. Population researches the genetic composition of members belonging to the same species. The two examples of population genetics are genetic drift and selection. Molecular genetics explores the chemical nature of genes. The two examples of molecular genetics are gene regulation and gene therapy. Transmission genetics researches the transmission of genes from one generation to another. The two examples of transmission genetics are gene mapping and heredity.
2. The 20th century laid the foundation for population genetics. In the year1966, scientists were able to figure out the chemical structures of DNA, which led to various experiments in recombinant DNA. Sequencing DNA was another advancement of genetics, which took place in 1977. The 20th century also saw DNA amplification through chain reactions. Furthermore, in 1990, scientists were able to conduct the gene therapy as a mode of treatment.
3. One of the most important advancements of the 20th century was exploration of DNA structure, which signaled molecular revolution throughout the world. The DNA structure paved a way for the scientists to explore genes and the organization of chromosomes in …show more content…
