In "The Other Family" by Himani Bannerji, the central conflict arises when a young girl creates a drawing of a light-skinned family that does not resemble her own. Upon seeing the drawing, the girl's mother begins to question her own beliefs, leading to a newfound acceptance of her cultural heritage. Initially, the mother's questioning causes the girl to feel trapped and vulnerable, prompting her to analyze her reflection in the mirror. She takes in the nuances of her appearance; “The brownness of her skin, the wide, staring, dark eyes, the black hair now tousled from the pillows, the scar on her nose and the brownish pink of her mouth." (Bannerji 162).

"The Snow Walker " is a tale of adventure and survival. A story about how the main characters are going to survive in Northern Territories of Canada after a plane crash. Set in the 1950s, it features an arrogant white pilot, Charlie Halliday, who was bribed with walrus tusks into taking a sick Inuit girl to a big city hospital. He is an ignorant racist. At the opening scene of the movie, we can see how he scoffed at being called "Brother" by an Inuit.

Brief Summary Staples speaks of his experiences being a six foot tall, young, African American male in a city filled with poverty and crime. He had never truly been exposed to the stereotypes and discrimination in his younger days, of course he knew of it, but he never truly experienced it. When he was twenty-two years old, he was out walking at night due to a bad case of insomnia. Apparently, he was following a little too uncomfortably close to a white woman and she felt endangered. W.E.B Dubois, or William Edward Burghardt DuBois is well known as one of the most important social activist and writers of the 1900’s. In 1888 he graduated from Fisk University and in 1895 DuBois became the first African American to receive a PHD from Harvard. In his early life, DuBois attacked Jim Crow laws and practices that inhibited black suffrage, and believed that protests were the only viable tools of change with America’s social problems. He saw very little future in agriculture as the nation rapidly industrialized, and so in 1905 DuBois founded the Niagara Movement, a movement to end all forms of discrimination.

Siblings have a unique potential to support each other in ways that other people cannot, creating a foundation for support and companionship throughout the course of their lives. Even though the brothers bump heads a lot in the novel, they always reconcile, whether they like it or not. Family ties are unchangeable and that is something
Are our true colors exposed when we are faced with conflict? “The Storm” written by Kate Chopin, tells the story of a love affair. She talks about the theme of adultery and tries to prove that it isn’t such a bad thing. Luckily, in her story, adultery does not result in any bad consequences and everyone remains the same. Adultery, temptation and the act of being unfaithful are highlighted throughout the short story.
In the short story “What happened during the Ice Storm?” showed a theme of maturation using literary elements, specifically irony, symbolism, and the application of onomatopoeias were used to support the theme of maturation. The literary element irony is mostly used in the short story “What happened during the Ice Storm?” originally the boys wanted to hurt the pheasants like the author says, “They stood over the pheasants, turning their own heads, looking at each other, each expecting the other to do something. To pounce on a pheasant, or to yell Bang!” This quote is important because it showed the boys original intent; which was to hurt or kill the pheasants.
After reading The Perfect Storm, by Sebastian Junger, I have concluded that the book kept my attention throughout, but I believe it could have improved. The storyline is scattered among many different stories, all centered around the meteorological nightmare of October of 1991. The setting, time, and place quickly change from story to story as most end in human lives being slain by the storm. I believe the movie is structured better, as it is centered around only one story, the story of a Gloucester, Massachusetts fishing crew on the Andrea Gail. I do not think the author had the experience of these men, whom he wrote about to remember and respect.
