Being the president of the United States comes with the responsibility of making tough decisions that aren’t always perceived as the best, especially when it involves the war. In 1945, President Harry Truman had to make a difficult decision that ultimately gave americans a leg up in the war. President Harry Truman’s decision to use the atomic bomb on Japan in WWII is surrounded by much controversy but holds many positive advantages that helped end the war. Presidents Harry Truman’s decision to use the atomic bomb posed nearly no significant dilemmas overall.
When thinking of the causes of the decision of President Truman it all started when his country was feeling threatened and as if they were losing. He felt as if he needed to make something very destructive to
Eisenhower also ended the Korean War. At the time the Eisenhower was the president-elect and he visited Korea to assess the situation of the Korean War. He then used threats of a nuclear attack to convince China to come to terms with him, saying that if the Chinese failed to reach an agreement with the U.S. that it would lead to bad consequences, the Bomb being dropped. President Eisenhower considered ending the Korean was his greatest accomplishment during his time as the President of the United States. Multiple times America seemed to be on the verge of war, countries around us were threatening to drop the Bomb.
Truman is an effective leader. At first people were thinking that he was unqualified for the Job but overtime people started looking at his achievements and how good of a president he is. The text states many Americans felt that Truman was unqualified for the job because he did not attend college”. This proves that Americans thought Truman wasn't going to be a good president and would make wrong decisions while being a president all because he didn't attend college. The Article also states, “Truman's project saved the whitehouse as a symbol of presidency , and his strong leadership through many complex issues”.
Eisenhower is more-often-than-not known as a “do-nothing” president because of his unsuccessful attempts to better and change the United States. Truman comes out on top when compared to Eisenhower because of Truman’s overall motivation and success with his intentions to improve America and its policies. A significant part of a presidency is their foreign policy. Truman’s legacy lies much in his foreign policy
Although most of the American population disagreed with many of his decisions, those controversial decisions have over time been proven to be nothing but beneficial and necessary to the nation. Truman demonstrated exemplary action as Commander in Chief, sending troops overseas to fight in the war against North Korea as he saw fit during the time of the Cold War. He made quick and bold decisions under challenging pressures, especially with the controversy of atomic bombs present at the time. Truman was a solid and dependable individual when building relations with foreign nations, especially with his contributions through the United Nations, making him successful in regards to being the Chief Diplomat. His roles as Chief Executive and Chief of State were explicitly represented through the well-organized bureaucracy and the fact that he was a well-respected power of authority within the government.
Truman was elected as president on 12 April 1945 within 3 months, following the sudden death of Franklin D. Roosevelt. During his first two months in office, Truman made the decision to drop the atomic bomb in Japan. “Nobody is more disturbed over the use of atomic bombs than I am but I was greatly disturbed over the unwarranted attack by the Japanese on Pearl Harbour and their murder of our prisoners of war. The only language they seem to understand is the one we have been using to bombard them. When You have to deal with a beast you have to treat him as a beast.
As soon as Truman took oath as 33rd president of the United States, within the six months of his presidency, he ended the World War 2 by attacking on the Japan with the nuclear weapons and destroyed two of cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki completely. This was bold yet wrong decision taken by the Truman as still the human and animal generations of the two afflicted countries are suffering from the hazardous radioactive effects. Not only had this in order to get down the Soviet Union, Truman committed for the assistance of the US troops in South Korea against the North Korea, but due to the Japanese assistance to the North Korea with its troops, Truman strategy went in vain (Editors,
He commanded the Southwest Pacific during WW II (1939-1945). He was a talented and outspoken general that was successful during WW II and led United Nation forces into the Korean War. After fighting during World War I, MacArthur returned to liberate the Philippines from the Japanese in 1944. With the attack on Pearl Harbor MacArthur was ordered to help the Philippines and defend the islands from the Japanese. He failed at this first mission which made him more determined to defeat the Japanese.
Truman, in our view, changed radically from his early days in the White House to the end of his political career. If there were one constant thread through his entire personality, however, it was his determination to do what he felt was right at every step. His tactical approach on how best to accomplish this changed, which is more a story of his growth in self-confidence over that time. Truman’s early Presidential days in WWII showed a humility and self-awareness of his own ineptitude, and in those days, he relied heavily on outside counsel and advice on how to handle decisions like how to secure total victory in Japan.
Not everyone agreed with it, and it proved costly as the nations it aided did not turn to Democracy. However, it set the tone for how the United States was to conduct its foreign policy. In addition, it paved the way for the Marshall plan, which was improved and more successful. Providing the necessary measures to ensure that weaker nations would not have to resort to a communist government demonstrated a devotion to soothing the threat of Soviet influence, reflecting Truman’s role in actively combatting Communism. In juxtaposition with Roosevelt whom chose not to concern himself with civil rights issues, “Truman spoke more boldly on civil rights than any previous president had…
The next task at hand for MacArthur was working as a lieutenant general and commander of U.S. forces in Far East in July 1941. The norm for MacArthur was working overseas because of the experience he had in human resources. At the end of the year, December 1941, the Japanese invasion of America occurred, which defeated his forces in the Philippines badly. This event is known as Pearl Harbor and affected the Philippines because America had already been not happy about Japan’s expansion in the Pacific and American whad been interested in the Philippines. The American society knows Pearl Harbor as Japanese planes attacking the United State Naval Base in Hawaii Territory on December 7, 1941.
According to Laurence Steinberg (2013), adolescence is the psychological and physical development that usually occurs during the age of puberty to adulthood, which is commonly associated with teenagers. Cultural and psychological expressions may begin earlier or end later, though it’s mostly expressed physically. Historically, adolescence has been thought to begin with the onset of various developments but nowadays may begin before teenage years, particularly in the females .Cognitive development and physical growth, as seen in men may extend to early twenties and therefore the chronological age provides a rough transition of the adolescence (Laurence Steinberg, 2013).There are many factors which determine adolescence transition. These include economic standing, gender, ethnicity and many more. In this paper I will use the “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian” and “Roll of Thunder” to discuss how the above factors determine the adolescence as well as proving whether adolescence is a universal experience.
