1. Explain how “Two Tramps in Mud Time” uses poetic techniques to tell a story and develop character. Answer:”Two Tramps in Mud Time”, uses poetic techniques throughout the poem. Robert Frost used stanzas to tell his story. Every stanza is a continuation of the one before it. With each stanza we are able to see more and more of the woodcutter’s emotions and problems he is dealing with. Opposites are used to help us see the turmoil going through the speakers mind. Examples of him using opposites would be winter and spring, and work and play. In the poem the speaker is continually comparing himself to the two tramps so that he can justify his job. The two tramps want the woodcutter’s job only to make money and this upsets the woodcutter because he loves his job. His job allows him to relieve his everyday stress as well as enjoy nature. Both the woodcutter and the two tramps have different reasons as to why they want to cut wood. (10 points) Score 2.
