How Did the Constitution Guard Against Tyranny? Tyranny is a cruel and oppressive government or rule. In the late 1780s in Philadelphia, 55 people met because the Articles of Confederation were not working. They decided to create the Constitution that would guard against tyranny. The three main decisions that I chose that they had to make that would guard against tyranny were making the three branches of government, how the branches of government could check each other, and also how they made the rule that you would have representation according to population.

The Constitution was written in Philadelphia 1787, the Constitution failed because of the Articles of Confederation. Two problems were that there was no chief executive and there was no court system. There are many types of tyranny, for example there can be one person who has a lot of power or when a group of people have too much power. Tyranny back then was harsh ownership of one individual, because of tyranny the constitution was doubted.

The Constitution guarded against tyranny in four ways; Federalism that creates a State and Federal government, Separation of Powers that gives equal power to the three branches, Checks and Balances that create balance in the three branches by checking each other and being checked and the Small States vs the Big States ensures an equal voice for all states no matter what their size.

The Constitution guarded against tyranny in several ways: federalism, the separation of powers, the checks and balances system, and large v. small states.
The Reign of Terror In September 1793 to July 1794, the Reign of Terror killed over 40,000 people in France using the guillotine a machine that made it a simple way to execute a mass amount of people. The Reign of Terror was led by no other than , Robespierre. He was trying to form a new government but instead caused thousands of people to be massacred. Ultimately, The Reign of Terror in France was not justified because the threats did not require it, the methods were too extreme and It did not support the ideals of the revolution.

The first method the Constitution protects against tyranny is Federalism. Federalism is the division of power between state and national government. In Document A it interprets that the governments will each have a portion of power and not be able to have all the power. This evidence helps explain why the Constitution guards against tyranny because Federalism will allow both governments to have limited powers. Another method the Constitution protects against tyranny is Separation of Powers.
In times of fear and hysteria in the U.S. it is mass chaos and it only gets worse and worse. During the time of both the witch-hunt eras, whether for communist or actual witches, they prove to have many similarities between them. Both of these times were full of confusion and lying which lead to the temporary downfall of the authority at that time. Joseph McCarthy proved to be a factor in this time and add on to the chaos that was America. Arthur Miller wrote about these times in a book called The Crucible, based on the witch trial era.
Federalism is an arrangement of government in which a similar domain is controlled by two levels of government. For the most part, an all-encompassing national government is in charge of the elected administration, administering the issues that influence the whole nation, while the smaller subdivisions, states, and urban areas, oversee the issues of neighborhood concern. Both the national government and the smaller political subdivisions have the ability to influence laws and both to have a specific level of self-sufficiency from each other. The United States has an elected arrangement of administration comprising of the national or government, and the legislature of the individual states.
