The United States Open Championship or mostly called the U.S. Open is an annual open golf tournament in the United States. It is one of the four major championships in golf. The championship is staged by the United States Golf Association, or USGA. The first time the US Open Golf Championship was played was in 1895 in the Newport, Rhode Island Golf and Country Club. There were eleven people total in the first tournament at the time, though three withdrew before play began, and nine holes that were played four times. The winner of the first tournament was Horace Rawlins. Open was played June 18 through 21, 2015 making it the 115th U.S. open. It was played at Chambers Bay in Washington making it the first U.S. Open played in the Pacific Northwest. One hundred fifty-six people were in the tournament although there were seventy-five after a cut. The winner of the tournament was Jordan Spieth, age twenty-one, who became the youngest U.S. Open champion in ninety-two years, since John McDermott in 1911. United States Open Championships winners that have stood out are Willie Anderson, Bobby Jones, Ben Hogan, and Jack Nicklaus because they are the only four people to have four U.S. Open victories. Prizes for winning have risen each year; in 1895 the reward was 150 dollars, while in 2015 the prize was 1,800,000 million dollars. The participants the U.S. Open sees is around nine-thousand people today. Amazing moments in the U.S. Open include a U.S. Open winner named Francis Quimet in 1913 at the age of 20. He was able to beat amazing professional British Golf players such as Harry Vardon and Ted Ray on the same course where he used to caddie. With him he had a
