It is 8 am, December 7, 1941. Everything is peaceful at U.S. Naval base Pearl Harbor near Honolulu, Hawaii. Until, suddenly, Japanese bomber planes filled the air and chaos ensumed. Unsuspecting ships were relentlessly attacked. A bomb crashed through the deck of warship USS Arizona. The ship exploded and sank, with more than 1,000 men aboard. Next, torpedoes pierced the hull of battleship USS Oklahoma. With 400 soldiers aboard, she then too couldn’t stay afloat and rolled into the depths. By then end of the attack,every ship in the base was damaged. Eventually, all except the USS Arizona and the USS Utah were salvaged and repaired. Most importantly, 2,500 people were killed and more than 1,000 people were injured. The environment wasn’t massively or long-term affected in any way. The recovery wasn’t too long. The attack at Pearl Harbor was devastating, but it did not hurt the Pacific fleet. America’s Pacific fleet aircraft carriers were all away from Pearl Harbor at the moment, and oil storage, ammunition, repair shops and other vital thinks weren’t damaged.
