In big cities like New York and San Francisco, public transportation is vital for citizens and visitors. It is uncommon to walk the streets of these big cities without seeing either a bus, taxi, and, in some cases, a trolley. Each type of transportation has been utilized for many years by thousands of people. Passengers stop taxi cars or wait for buses on the side of the street, jump in, and have the ability to virtually go anywhere. Recently, however, a new type of transportation, Uber, has become the new craze. One of the biggest benefits that has riders choosing Uber over the traditional yellow taxi cab is the lower pricing. In general taxis charge a much higher price for their rides. Joseph Brier, a writer for The Gazette, wrote about his experience with Uber. He said that he ordered an Uber from Montreal to the airport for just under $25 compared to any taxi service in the area that would charge a set fee of $40 (Brier). Similar cases have been reported in many other cities as well. In many other services though, cheaper does not always mean better. According to Brier, this is not the case. Brier claimed that the customer service for his Uber ride was much better than that of the taxi cab (Brier). With Uber fares almost half the price of the traditional taxi and the superior customer service, it is no surprise that riders are choosing to use Uber as their means of transportation. The amenities that come with Uber’s app are also a great benefit to the riders. Passengers just like the drivers, enjoy the cash-free paying system. The transaction is simple and quick.
