The notion of Uber being a drive-hailing platform means that actual and potential drivers alike, most of them will be independent contractors that only take driving as a side job in their free time to earn some extra income. In a sense, choosing to work as an Uber driver is the way they choose to spend their legal paid holiday, or even after their primary job, when they are still felling productive. The ‘productivity’ effect in this case is therefore only limited at best, as it only affects the small portion of ‘full-time’ drivers that take Uber driving as their primary job and income. Such argument would be even weaker for potential drivers. As Uber is now obliged to pay existing drivers even when they are not working, Uber will have to either raise fares that can result in less demand to the service, or to cut cost by limiting the number of drivers on its platforms.
In the article “Uber Sends Lobbyists to Help Reshape California Laws” by Alison Vekshin it states that “The San Francisco company's lobbyists are pushing lawmakers to exempt its drivers from obtaining commercial licenses before they can ferry passengers” (1). According to Vekshin “Uber has spent almost $1 million since 2013 on lobbyists in California” (1) in order to push for the legislation they want passed. As well Vekshin states that Uber is “backing legislation that would let the companies charge split fares for shared rides and a bill that would exempt its drivers from having to get commercial license plates” (2). This is a threat to interest groups that support taxicab and limousine companies because it is stealing business from those
Bus Stabber Jim is out there, in an alley. He 's smoking a cigarette, stroking the blade of his knife, and chatting up a dame. The sickly streetlights cascade a filthy glow over both of them. The bus is approaching, and Jim 's gonna lead this poor, innocent woman on board, and then what 's going to happen? Will he stab her, and continue his streak of senseless violence?
December 18, 1917 the United States Congress passed the Eighteenth Amendment prohibiting the manufacturing, sales, and transportation of intoxicating liquors. March 21, 1947, the United States Congress debated again over the topic of alcohol. The result was the Twenty-first Amendment being passed. Alcohol was yet again allowed and freely sold within the borders of the United States of America (Constitution). No matter the harmful effects alcohol has always been a drug that is used, abused, and loved by countless Americans.
The Trans-Canada highway is one of the longest highways in the world officially opening on July 30th, 1962 and finally completed meeting its road requirements in 1971 classifying almost 13,000 km of road. The Canadian government invested more than a billion dollars for the construction not to mention the costs needed for repairs, a price I was unable to find an exact number for, but besides that, a question that goes around is whether or not the Trans Canada Highway money well spent or wasted? Well it is money well spent, as a long term investment by the government uniting our nation geographically{again} and symbolically as well as allowing people an easy way to travel long or short distances across the country and long and/or short distance transportation of goods by road. The Highway links Canada, creating a stronger unity between our provinces and territories, economically, socially and symbolically. The Trans CandaHighway is a title given to roads that match the given set requirements by the
In today’s society, distracted driving is a major issue, one we have been struggling with since the invention of cell phones. In 2013 alone, over 3,000 people were killed in accidents caused by distracted driving in the US. While many methods have been used to try and stop distracted driving, people are still in search of the best way to go about it. Many believe that we will get the best results by distributing PSAs, or Public Service Announcements, across the nation through different forms of media. They believe that, by showing people the facts, they will become more educated on the dangers of distracted driving and cease to do so.

Gasoline and diesel are fossil fuels and aren 't infinite. Battery electricity are better, they don’t pollute and don 't burn fossil fuels. Instead of having a gas tank and having to fill it up at a gas station, these cars have batteries in their place and can be recharged with a larger charging station and needs 220 volts. The recharged batteries stay charged until the car is driven. Some people say that battery powered cars are slower, but it isn’t by much and battery powered cars think is worth slowing down a little if it means saving the planet.
