The Union County Vocational Technical Schools (UCVTS) should have a sports program for students to join. Some students turn down the opportunity to come to UCVTS because no sports opportunities are available. Not many extracurricular activities are available besides clubs on campus. Also, students who attend UCVTS and play sports for their local hometown school can’t enjoy the same school spirt from a hard fought victory as the students who attend the hometown school. Students should play for the school they attend. When I tell some of the friends I grew up with that I attend the Magnet School, the response I usually get is that they considered testing for Magnet but changed their mind when they found out UCVTS doesn’t have organized sports. Scholarships can be given out to player who are exceptionally good. Collages would want to take students form UCVTS over other schools because they get a great education when going to magnet, AIT, etc. On the topic of education, grades are a deciding factor in scholarships. Students who play sports should at least maintain a C+ average or else they will be suspended from the team until the grades go back up above a C.
Since sports can be quite expensive (equipment, field maintaining, transportation, etc.) fundraisers can help satisfy the cost. The student government can organize many different fundraisers. An example could be the sale of team jerseys. A jersey that would have magnet written across a soccer ball or any other ball. Food sales are also a big hit at magnet. Kids love food and will pay to eat something delicious. If parents allow their ids to play sports at UCVTS a fee should be in place to help with the cost of coaching. Coaches could be obtained by volunteers or current gym teachers willing to do the
