The novel Uglies is a science fiction novel written by Scott Westerfeld. It is set in a future dystopian world where everyone undergoes plastic surgery when they turn 16 which transforms them into society’s idea of pretty. Even though the book Uglies takes place three hundred years in the future, it still relates to important issues in our society today. Scott Westerfeld explores many issues, however the three major ideas seem to be friendship, Pretty vs. Ugly and class division.
