The Unanswerable

What is virtue and can it be taught? This is an eternal question; one that cannot be answered by man and will never be answered by man. Only God can answer this question and only can truly define virtue, for God is virtue itself. However, while only God can define virtue, we as people must have an answer for everything, this being the ultimate goal for humanity. Moreover, we must have our own definition to use as a reference; Virtue: moral excellence, goodness, and righteousness. (Dictionary.com) For thousands of years Philosophers have attempted to answer this and similar questions, yet any discussion on the topic ends where it began. Morals are another highly discussed attribute that only God can explain to us. Many have succeeded and many have failed. These people are commonly referred to as Philosophers. A Philosopher is someone who offers views or theories on profound questions in ethics. (Dictionary.com) Philosophers have communed over many questions for thousands of years. Man will never know all that God knows while he abides here on Earth. Nevertheless, we still search for answers, and that is why there are still Philosophers searching for answers today. Philosophers discuss among themselves and with other people the thought provoking unanswered questions in order to encourage the person to find answers through questioning.
