He was giving of himself help. He was in no way harming anyone. Then when Bob Ewell came home and found Tom Robinson, he set out to ruin his life. Tom was innocently helping Mayella when Bob Ewell accused him of raping his daughter. The white people said Tom was guilty, killing Tom with their conviction before he even had a fair trial Tom’s is seen by very few of the characters in the book.
The Scottsboro Trials were a set of trials where nine black boys named Charlie Weems, Ozie Powell, Clarence Norris, Olen Montgomery, Willie Roberson, Haywood Patterson, Eugene Williams, Andrew Wright and Leroy Wright were accused of on March 25th, of raping two white women Ruby Bates and Victoria Price. These women were pressured to accuse the nine men. The white men that pressured the women told the conductor to stop at the next town so they could get the police. The police arrested the Scottsboro Boys and they were brought to trial. Eight out of nine of them were sentenced to death.
He is a respectable man who is torn down because of the prejudice towards his race. Tom is an innocent mockingbird who does nothing but go out of the way to help others. In the book, Tom is accused of raping a white woman, when he was only helping her with some of her chores. During Tom’s trial he was asked many questions as to why he helped Mayella Ewell in the first place, he responded “Yes, suh. I felt right sorry for her, she seemed to try more’n the rest of ‘em -” (197).
He suffered mental and physical brutality throughout the slaveholder process. Tom was dedicated to his Christianity beliefs. He also led to his other slave friend known as Cassy to the Christianity beliefs. Through the word of God, Tom convinced Cassy to escape, which ended up leading Tom to his own brutal death. Stowe made Christianity the focus of the slave’s lives.
The Fugitive Slave Act chief reason was to track fugitive slaves who had runaway to northern states, capture them, and subsequently return them to their appropriate southern owners. This law put fugitive slave cases beneath the elite specialist of the Joined together States Federal Government. Attention! The Supreme Court has made a new law called “Fugitive Slave Act.” This law has made it a crime to help runaway slaves and is allowing officials to arrest those slaves at any time or place. The Supreme Court has told us that slaveholders are complaining how their slaves run away and are never found. Southerners are ecstatic about this new law.

The Scottsboro Boys is the tale of nine innocent young black men accused of rape by two white women. Tome’s production of Scottsboro is amazing and heart-wrenching. Haywood Patterson, the only Scottsboro boy to die in jail, strives to always tell the truth because of past trauma, and Tru Verret-Fleming portrays Patterson perfectly, his acting leaves nothing to be desired. The choreography throughout the musical is unbelievably graceful and thoughtful. Britton Mauk’s set design has a simplistic but timely approach, which helps the audience pay attention to the show, rather than elaborate set pieces.
Racism and Segregation in the South During the 1930’s, the Great Depression caused poverty throughout the United States. People all over the country went to extreme measures to earn money and survive. Several people hopped on trains illegally to travel and try to start new lives for themselves. Some women resorted to prostitution around these hobo camps to earn their living. Two such women were Ruby Bates and Victoria Price.
The Scottsboro Boys were nine black boys people blamed in Alabama for assaulting two white ladies on a train in 1931. The cases from this occurrence managed prejudice and the privilege to a reasonable trial. The cases incorporated a lynch swarm before the suspects had been arraigned, every white jurie, surged trials, and problematic crowds. It is refered to as an illustration of a general unnatural birth cycle of equity in the United States legitimate framework.
Lynching and Lynch Mobs One of the most dreadful acts in the U.S. history was lynching. Lynching was a very cruel and awful act that occurred in America in the 19th through the 20th century. Many people suffered from lynching. Lynching is the murder of a person, which includes killing illegally and destroying a person’s life without any reason (Susan Altman).
Aging is an essential part of life, some people dread it while others just sit back and enjoy the ride. For example, in the book, Tuesdays with Morrie, the main character Morrie, who is a college professor, actually enjoys the aging process. When Morrie is talking to his former student Mitch he says that he once told his friends, "I am going to be the healthiest old man you ever met," and he was in his sixties when he said this which shows how he is optimistic about aging. If you do not age then you will not be able to learn new things, meet new people, and experience new things and Morrie understood this more than most people. He was not afraid to age, because he knew that it was inevitable and he embraced it instead of trying to run away
said Atticus. ‘He was running. It was during their exercise period. They said he just broke in to a blind raving charge at the fence and started climbing over it.’”(315). Tom Robinson was killed at the jail where he was being held after being convicted of rape to await a state trial.
But, nevertheless this is how the times are and a black person never really has a chance in the court system, because they weren’t treated the same as white people. Another time that it is very clear that people don’t treat Tom the same as white people is when people refer to him as a “nigger.” The first example of this is at the Finch landing on Christmas when Scout and Cousin Francis get into a fight after Francis says something to Scout about Atticus, “He’s nothin’ but a nigger-lover” (Lee 83). This quote very clearly shows that people treat Tom differently when Cousin Francis says
In “Uncle Tom’s Cabin’ there are many heroic qualities, but there is not one person who is a real hero. Many characters showed heroic behavior in this tale. I want you to note that even Stowe who was a black man does not behave as a black person, but instead, he showed a heroic model of behavior that should be appreciated by black and white people as well. And of course, Tom who presented more than a black hero, he was the author of transcending race.
