As the abolitionists came from various different communities, including white anti-slavery, like Harriet Beecher Stowe, abolitionists argued that slavery had many harsh conditions. Therefore, slavery violated the natural rights of all people for equality. However, as the novel was a bestseller during the 1850’s, there must have been some considerable interest in the issue of slavery, due to some facts that were added to create a more entertaining story. Therefore, abolitionists used some kind of mass media to spread a message throughout the entire country, eventually reaching out to the
From 1845-1861, Northerners greatest worries regarding the growth of “slave power” were due in part to the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, Election of 1852 and the Kansas-Nebraska Act. In February of 1848, both the United States and Mexico signed the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo (Norton, 347). This treaty gave the United States California, New Mexico and present day Nevada, Utah, Arizona, parts of Colorado, and Wyoming (Norton, 347). The acquisition of such a vast amount of land increased Northern fear of slavery expansion. Slavery was the worst problem that humanity could have been through and it kept happening even after the Civil War in the United States. In the classic novel, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, written by Harrier Beecher Stowe, there are a lot of situations in which slavery affected many characters but they always try to find a way to get out of it, his main character Uncle Tom experienced different stages of this practice from the educated, kind, and basically good-hearted man, Mr. Shelby, to the ruthlessly evil master of the Louisiana plantation, Simon Legree. One book that most affected the start of the Civil War was Uncle Tom’s Cabin. Uncle Tom’s Cabin was very important to how the Civil War started and how different people would view slavery. Harriet Beecher Stowe was the author of this important book, and she was a prominent figure in the cause of the abolition of slavery. The Civil War was devastating for both the North and the South, but it accomplished one very important thing: it cleansed our country of slavery.
This created a lot of conflict and controversy between, not only the North and South, but also Stowe and the critics who viewed her book as “too miniscule to end slavery on its own” and many accused Stowe of fabricating unrealistic, one-sided images of the slavery in the south. Yet, this book ended up being a bestseller and thousands of copies were sold. It is believed the reason is because Harriet gave a face to slavery, Uncle Tom, and because of that it all seemed more real or more personal, and by letting you get to know a character it is almost like you know them. But there are some who make an understandable argument about the character personality of Tom and claim it to be unrealistic. What these people don’t realize though is that he is a fictional character, and even if his personality seems unrealistic doesn’t mean that there isn’t someone out there who acts similar to him.

He is a poor slave,he is diligent and faithful for his first master whose name is Shelby. Also,he is compassionate.
According to GoodReads, Harriet Beecher Stowe once said, “Most mothers are instinctive philosophers.” Stowe speculates that it’s natural for mothers to be astute and think ethically about different circumstances. Which depicts that “most mothers” had more of a sense of morality than “most fathers.” Especially since she wrote this novel and conforms to her quote because she was knowledgeable of the situations during the time she was alive in the 19th century. Throughout Uncle Tom’s Cabin, Stowe portrays mothers in the novel as intellectual figures with high morality through the character of Mrs. Bird.
