PART ONE: 1. Whenever I hear a buzzing noise near my head, I plug my ears. Not because the noise agitates me (although that is also true), but because I’ve had chronic nightmares as a young child of bees and/or flies crawling and flying all over my face and into my nose and ears, causing me pain and trauma. Now - even though I haven’t had the dream in about a decade - I still involuntarily block my ears if I think I hear a flying bug. 2. The unconditioned response is the urge to keep bugs out of my ears by plugging them, because in my nightmares the bugs hurt my ears and stopping pain is an involuntary reaction. 3. The UCS was bugs flying on my face and crawling in my ears, because that is what caused me the pain I had the urge to stop. 4. The neutral stimulus was the buzzing noise the bugs made as they crawled and flew on my face. The sound of bugs flying never made me want to plug my ears …show more content…

The conditioned response is covering my ears when I hear a buzzing noise similar to the sound of a bug flying around in order to avoid pain. PART TWO: I would like to get my homework done earlier in the week instead of rushing to get everything done during the weekend. I would like to change that behavior so that I have more free time and less stress about whether the work will get done in time. I will use positive reinforcement to change this behavior by giving myself a small edible treat (such a blueberry or piece of candy) every time I accomplish a small work-related task (such as finishing a chapter or section in a book or turning in an assignment). Positive reinforcement is adding a pleasurable or desired consequence to a response; my consequence is a small treat and my response is getting a little work done. A negative reinforcement is removing or altogether avoiding something unpleasant. For me, that unpleasant something is feeling rushed and being busy during the weekend. I can altogether avoid that unpleasant something by getting my homework done earlier in the
