With age comes a craving for change, a desire to explore the unknown and experiment with new experiences. Progressing through life’s early years exposes oneself to many different challenges. Children today face a lot of issues that are amplified by; social media, family problems, stress, and a motivation to try something new. This motive to escape problems or experiment with the unknown leads to the introduction of the negative elements of life that their parents had protected them from before. Many results of underage drinking put your health and safety at risk. These kids start drinking for the reasons listed above but don’t understand the real risk that they are placing themselves. These repercussions can come from direct or indirect problems. Some problems are instant because of the effect it has on your emotions and decision-making. Other problems can be prolonged and health problems are faced because of underage drinking. Not only is drinking dangerous but it is also illegal. Throughout the united states, the drinking age is 21. People have tried to change it but it has constantly been rejected. There is a reason for that rejection. There is a reason why this is an age of underage drinking. Many people try and argue and get the age lower thinking children are responsible enough to handle this. The main reason for the drinking age is based on the development of the human brain. The legal drinking age in the United States is eighteen but even then the brain isn't fully developed. Based on research Mental Health Daily released and said, “a consensus of neuroscientists agree that brain development likely persists until at least the mid-20s – possibly until the 30s (1 Mental Health Daily).” This is significant to look at when understanding why the use of alcohol should not be in youth communities. This lack of development can affect; your ability to pay attention, complex planning, decision making, impulse control, logical thinking, organized thinking, personality development, risk management, and short and long-term memory (2 Mental Health Daily). As you can see that list is exceedingly long. The number of day-to-day abilities that you need in your brain in order to function can be affected. This alone shows how important taking precautions about drinking should be and also why the age restriction if anything, shouldn't be lowered but
