The casual and almost boastful nature with which adultery is depicted in the book makes a statement about disloyalty and disrespect. The book is told from the perspective of Nick Caraway who claims to be a man who doesn’t judge others, however, the reader sees how Nick really feels through his character descriptions and events he chooses to tell about. When reading the first few chapters, it is clear how Nick feels about Tom’s stance on fidelity. Tom excitedly introduces Nick to his girlfriend Myrtle Wilson, which Nick is shocked by since Tom is married to Nick’s cousin Daisy.
