During the nineteenth century, America shifted from a small, developing country into a world power. One of the events that led to this development was the War of 1812. This war is often called “America’s second war for independence” because Great Britain continued its interference in America’s affairs. There is not one definite cause that started the war but many factors that blended with one another. These factors can be grouped into three main concerns which are maritime impressment, territorial expansion, and the Republican War Hawks.
Citizenship in Athens and Rome: Which was the Better System? 1. The idea of citizenship, or a status given by a government to its people, emerged in approximately 500 BCE. Citizens were responsible for playing significant roles in the life of the state or nation, but in turn were able to possess and benefit from certain rights. Compared to Athens, the Roman Republic's system of citizenship was better in the fact that it was more generous, although careful, in granting citizenship in which rights made the government much more organized.
Fellow Americans, there has been a debate of weather or not the War of 1812 was a defense for our sovereignty, or a risk of our Liberty. I am here to tell you, that it was without a doubt waged in defense of our sovereignty. We the United States went to war with Great Britain in June of 1812, we did this because Britain was trampling on our sovereignty. Britain still thinks of the United States as one of their colonies that they can control, they are wrong. In 1807, the British H.M.S. Leopard forced their way onto the U.S.S. Chesapeake off the coast of Norfolk, Virginia.
Public space is a shared landscape that all citizens have the potential to encounter. These areas, especially in major cities like Philadelphia, are saturated with statues depicting historical figures and a variety of artwork. Memorials are also included in this public area and become a representation of a certain memory for the public to share. When conflicts occur, such as a major war, more than just the government and the military are involved. A nations economy is torn apart, and certain industries and their materials become focused on the war effort.
Identifying and assessing the risks of facilities, that if attacked and damaged, would result in significant consequences, negative impact on national economic security, national public health and safety, public confidence, national governance, or some combination of these adverse outcomes is important. The order of precedence would follow the path of facilities, equipment, conveyances records, artifacts, and materials. With prioritized approaches put in place to mitigate the effects of incidents, the owners and operators of these facilities can make risk-informed decisions during incidents and following through with rapid response and restoration, even during times of limited resources. These actions not only allow for an increase in security, but it also strengthens resilience through such an approach that identifies and prioritizes these actions. By using the Baldrige Criteria it allows a comprehensive assessment based on criteria with a national standard of excellence. The text (Fisher) explains that benchmarking uses teams of employees that review and visit the programs, services and practices from all over the world that share in best practices in the area of homeland security. All organizations endeavor to become like these organizations, as they are “world class” in practices that they have recognized as needed development in those areas (Fisher, 2013). Based on benchmarking of the team the key components to consider for any organization in a homeland security assessment should be the basics to the assessment as recommended in the text (Fisher, 2013).

In times such as now, immigration policy is a topic of controversial and emotional discussion. The key in having educational, progressive, and prosperous conversations is understanding the theoretical foundations behind the argument that a person stands for or believes in. Having factual evidence to support ideas on concepts such as: the opportunities that immigrants bring to a country, what the international rules actually are that govern the entry and exit of people from one country to another, and the causes, trends, and consequences of international immigration. Finding reason and support for these claims can take the discussion behind immigration policy from one of heated and emotional argument to one of educational and beneficial conversation.

I was born in the capital of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. My family was native to the land having lived there for decades, but we were soon refugees due to famine and war between ethnic groups who had laid claim to the land we inherited from our ancestors. In leaving, my mother left behind her family, knowing that she may never see them again, so that we; her children, could have a better chance at life. She understood that we were susceptible to becoming victims of war, that it was impossible to foster a home during war. Ultimately, with the war progressing, we moved to the shacks of Nairobi, Kenya in an effort to seek asylum.
When I was six years old, living in Ethiopia, my dad won an American green card visa lottery among 53,000 people. Although it was exciting news, family members were discouraged because my dad could not afford the visa processing and traveling expense. However, he found a sponsor in Seattle, which allowed him to settle in America. As soon as he found a good house and a stable job, he started the process for me and my family. Multiple errors and obstacles delayed our processing for five years.
Assimilation has a major impact on America and its history. Assimilation is a very controversial topic as many people have different opinions and beliefs about it. The reason people have so many different opinions and beliefs is because assimilation impacts America in so many different ways and happens for so many different reasons. I personally believe assimilation is both good and bad depending on what aspect you 're looking at and how the assimilation is happening. Assimilation can be seen in both the past and present, whether it is forced or happens willingly/naturally.
Throughout the history of the United States, immigration has and continues to be an issue that is present today. Undocumented immigrants face many hardships living in our country with limited access to attain a lifestyle as any other American. These limitations affect undocumented immigrants in their daily lives and they face downward social mobility. In the workplace along with anywhere else, immigrants face fear of deportation and exploitation due to their ‘illegal’ immigration status, therefore they remain living in the shadows and in extreme distress. If opportunities such as a work permit was granted to immigrants, their chances of succeeding in the labor market would be rewarding.
An immigrant family wants the best for everyone lives, however moving to a new country brings struggles. There struggles include finding a home, a good paying job, avoiding to be deported, being separated ,and continuing their education. Immigrants expect a better life because their old home and country did have much benefits as the new country gives them. The advantage of an immigrant family is family values which tends them to be closer. Disadvantages of an immigrant family are the struggles that were first mentioned and including that they face other people calling them a threat.
