Continued war and political upheavals in the world today has contributed greatly to the increase in number of movements of refugees from one country to another. Many of the refugees experience intense loss and demoralizing events that in turn impact their development and long-standing functioning. The journey from their motherland to counties of refuge is oftentimes characterized by violence and uncertainty, with extreme lack of primary human rudimentary needs. Such elementary human wants for example shelter, food, and security among other needs are in deficit if not completely lacking. Refugee is a reality in the world today. It is estimated that about twenty four million people are internally displaced and about twenty million of them become refugees (Mazur, 1994). United …show more content…

Majority experience very traumatizing events such as own family members being brutally massacred or have been direct victims of torture and/ or abuse. Such disturbing experiences leave them totally demoralized in that majority loss hope in life completely which in turn impact their development and longstanding functioning. For this reason, refugees require counseling so as to cope with life. After experiencing intense torture in their home county and devastating conditions that follow by the fact of being a refugee, many victims loss hope and life becomes meaningless to them. For the refugees to be able to deal with this existential crises hope is an inevitable tool in this endeavor. Hope in this manner can be taken as a metaphysical concept which purport that even though life may be difficult in this current situation there is an anticipation of a better life in future.
