Aequalitatem Equality- the state of being in equal, especially in status, rights and opportunities. This is the definition of equality that anybody can look up anywhere, but what does it mean? Veronica Roth used equality in her book Divergent to create a near perfect society, with little to no problems. My question is, is the United States close to equality in the workplace? The United States is still not equal because men still do harder labor than women, men get higher wages, and men are more than likely able to get themselves out of a dilemma better than women. The United States as a whole is a great country, but like all the other countries that we have around the world we have our flaws? One flaw with equality problems is in the workplace men are still superior to women. Take a look at the RV industry I guarantee that if you walk into a factory it is made up of mostly men. Why, because most of the positions in construction or factories like this are hard back breaking work and they feel that men are worth more than women in these situations. This is merely one of the equality problems in the United States. In the book Divergent we don’t really see this problem. Men tend to attain salaries approximately 7.6% higher than counterparts because men can negotiate better. It also shows that 61% of men are more likely to ask for a raise whereas only 45% of women are willing to ask for a raise.
