UnityPoint Health-Trinity is an affiliate of the larger health system UnityPoint Health. UnityPoint Health is a health system that spans across the entire state of Iowa and has branched out into parts of Illinois and Wisconsin. Before this tristate expansion, UnityPoint Health was initially developed in 1993 in central Iowa when Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Blank Children’s Hospital and Iowa Lutheran Hospital merged (UnityPoint Health, 2017). At that time, the system was referred to as Iowa Health Systems until it officially changed its name to UnityPoint Health in 2013. The system as a whole is now comprised of 20 hospitals, over 290 physician clinics, 18 community network hospitals, 18 home health care organizations, and four accredited colleges across its nine geographic regions that employ over 30,000 people total (UnityPoint Health, 2017). The mission of UnityPoint Health is to “Improve the health of the people and communities we serve” and a vision of “Best Outcome Every Patient Every Time®” (UnityPoint Health, 2017). I was hired on as a full time wellness coach and have maintained that employment status since. As a wellness coach, I assist with the planning, implementation and evaluation of our wellness programs and events for all UnityPoint Health-Trinity employees. Additionally, I am involved in our commitment to offering wellness programs to area businesses and assist with various community based health events. I also act as an Employee Engagement Ambassador and Recognition and Activities Committee member, which I’m responsible for helping increase efforts in employee engagement and help plan annual company activities for employees. As a Recognition and Activities Committee member, I’ve helped with the creation and implementation of our new employee recognition award; the Focus Spotlight Award.
