The University of Maryland is located in College Park, Maryland. The School was founded in 1856. This school is a public research college. In fall 2010 the school had an enrollment of more than 37,000 students. The University of Maryland has 120 graduate programs. Sports is plays a really big role in the everyday life of this school. This school uses the nickname of “Terrapins” for all of their athletic teams. The school has 20 different sports teams. These teams consists of Men’s baseball, basketball, football, golf, lacrosse, soccer, track and field, and wrestling. In 1916 the state of Maryland took over the school and in this year was when the first females were allowed to attend this school. 1951 was the first year when colored students were allowed to go to this school. In 2004 the university added a 150 research park to there campus which is one of the biggest research park in the Washington D.C Capital Beltway. In 2002 the university won a national championship in men’s basketball. The yearly tutuion at this school is $9,996 for all residents of Maryland. For non-residents of Maryland the yearly tuition is $31,144. There are many different famous alumni from the University of Maryland. Some of these alumni are Dan Gronkowski, Steve Blake, and Steve Francis just to name a few. This year the schools basketball record was 27 wins and 9 loses. One of the most known sports facility of the school is the Xfinity center. The xfinity center is the basketball arena for the Maryland “Terps”.
