After a comprehensive review of The University of Pennsylvania’s School of Engineering and Applied Science academic curriculum, extracurricular activities, and student life, I have come to believe that Penn is the ideal place for me to pursue all my academic and intellectual interests. The University of Pennsylvania is well-known for their driven students, historical location, and above all else the numerous research opportunities available to undergraduate students. Academically, the University of Pennsylvania offers a rigorous and exciting engineering program. My high school’s STEM academy has provided me the opportunity to investigate many of the different engineering disciplines. From this experience, I was drawn to a career in chemical and biomolecular engineering. Penn also encourages students to pursue a concentration within their major. I am really interested in the genetic and drug development courses offered in the Pharmaceutics and Biotechnology concentration. Similarly, I appreciate the Social Sciences and Humanities requirements that give you the chance to explore courses of interest not pertaining to your major. Organizations such as Biochemistry Club and the Women’s Biomedical Society would give me a chance to meet and work with my fellow students who share similar interests. The engineering program at the University of Pennsylvania would be a good fit for me because of their dedication to advancing women in engineering.
