“Unprecedented: The 2000 Presidential Election” was the title of the documentary film co-written by Richard Ray Pérez and Joan Sekler mentioned about the 2000 Presidential Election and the struggle in ballots in Florida. The Presidential Election in 2000 was one of the worst presidential elections in America History due to the weakness of the Electoral College system. The presidential race was George W. Bush as a Republican candidate in Texas against the Democratic candidate was Al Gore in Tennessee. The film revealed the broken in the voting organization and the voter’s right of African-American people. Al Gore, who had served as the vice president under Bill Clinton, selected to run on the Democratic ticket in 2000. He focused his campaign on improving the economy and keeping the federal surplus created by Clinton while continuing to pay off the national debt. In addition, Gore's plan also included putting funding into improving Medicare, social security, and programs to protect the environment and help the needy. Besides, George W. Bush, son of former President George H. W. Bush, was the candidate running on the Republican ticket in 2000. Bush's campaign was much different from Gore's one. Through the video, I learned many lessons in the Electoral College, and the equal rights to vote of black people. In the video, it showed how the election happened in American, and I realized that it is not easy to come up with the results who will be the next President. In addition, the grueling 36-day Florida recount battle showed that Al Gore lost his chance to win to Bush as the 43rd President of United State. Moreover, the video also revealed the huge problem of the vote machines on the Election Day that made the ballots in Florida had to count by hand in the recount battle. Even through, Gore won the popular vote by roughly 500,000; the winner of the election is the winner of the Electoral College belongs to George W. Bush. The 2000 Election brought to me various dominant issues how the real election occurs and the endless battle between Bush and Gore. I gain many lessons throughout the video are the Electoral College and the American citizens’ attitudes in the 2000
