In the beginning of the automobile, America maintained the lead and dominated the auto industry and the United States is still considered one of the largest automotive markets in the industry. Mass production was introduced by Henry Ford and was able to simplify and speed up the production process. With the advances in technology and consumer demands, the competition continues to increase as other countries are able to continue to pay lower wages alongside the ability to manufacture the auto parts for less.

One of my favorite technology features is OnStar. Originally, only General Motors vehicles were able to take advantage of all the wonderful features. Recently, OnStar released a product that could be installed on most vehicles called, FMV (For My Vehicle). The list to the left consists of Automatic Crash Response, which contacts help in the event of a crash, to hands free calling, Wi-Fi, and more.
Automakers are spending more money on software and content, to meet the consumer demands to stay connected. Although, they are increasing spending, consumers also want more options to be standard. So in order to keep up with the competition, more and more options have become standard, like keyless entry, power locks, and power windows. Sales most likely would be affected because automakers will have to charge on average of $6,000 more per vehicle to incorporate the new technology. Consumers may find themselves waiting longer to purchase new vehicles to avoid the increased costs.
