Urban Legend: The Boyfriend's Death The Boyfriend's Death is an urban legend told to many young teenagers along with being depicted in movies and Shows. Like all urban ledges, it is a story told to scare and teach people a lesson. If you enjoy thrilling and somewhat gory tales you are sure to love this one if you haven’t heard of it by now. In my paper, I will tell the story and explain different a telling of it, analyze why this story is to try to figure out its root, and finally give my opinion on the story. So, join me on the journey as we take a deeper look into The Boyfriend's Death.
The start of the story is usually the same, focusing on a young couple in a car late at night attempting to get freaky, usually on some remote back road. Often these are minor changes, often being the ending of the story. For instance, the story may end with the boyfriend being hung above the car after having his neck slit. In another variant, several cop cars pull up next to the car chasing a deranged psycho who jumped on top of the girl's car after presumably killing her boyfriend. So why is this urban legend so prominent and where did it originate from? It is prominent because of two main factors. The cautionary tale to teenagers is to deter them from hooking up. This fear of many parents is often because they may have once had a similarly thrilling experience on a back road late at night secondly, a societal fear of deranged psychos out there looking to violate someone.
