Have you ever wanted to change but you don't believe a person can change? This is important to us because if you are a bad human then not alot of people will like you. The novella A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens uses Imagery, Similes, and Irony to explore room for change in a person and demonstrates how people can change and reveals that people are able to change. Dickens uses similes to show room for change in the lines “Hard and sharp as flint from which no steel had ever struck out generous fire secret and self contained and solitary as an oyster.”(Pg.3) In the beginning of the book scrooge is portrayed as a selfish old man who never talk with anyone and chooses to be alone. After meeting with Marley and the 3 Ghosts he had obviously changed in the lines “ I'm as merry as a schoolboy! Im as giddy as a drunken man!”(pg.42) This proves my point because when he was his old self he would have been like this because he did not care about christmas but now after the three spirits he is excited about christmas and he hated christmas before. …show more content…

In these lines Scrooge's nephew is saying that he thinks Scrooge is lying when he says that Christmas is fake. Later in the lines “I will honour Christmas in my heart and try to keep it all the year live in the Past the Present and the Future. The Spirits of all strive within. I will not shut the lessons that they teach.”(pg.41) This shows that he has changed because he said that he will keep Christmas in his heart and keep it all throughout the year and at the beginning of the book he said that Christmas is fake.
