Can having too much power go to someone’s head? Many of us has heard this saying “with great power, comes with great responsibility.” that may not be the case for Nurse Retched and Randell McMurphy from One flew over the Cuckoo’s nest and and principle Vernon from the breakfast Club. Power is having control over someone’s ability to direct and influence their actions and behaviors. When someone feels like they have control over someone or something they may become lost in that power and let it get over their head. Power is sometimes taken from a person’s perspective.
Characters such as Nurse Ratched and McMurphy both abuses their power that they built around, the power they had in place was used to control people around them. In the movie One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest McMurphy tried to use his power for good but was stopped and foiled by Nurse Ratched and her Minions followers. In One scene of the movie One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest McMurphy tried to get the patients to go against Nurse Retched orders by throwing a party, by doing that he broke many laws that was put in place and disrespected Nurse Ratched as an authority figure. Nurse ratched Knew that Billy was terrified of his mother and she knew that he didn’t dare to disappoint her either. She has that as an opportunity to show her true colors and dark soul. Nurse Ratched can be describe as cold and has no remorse. She puts fear in everyone heart including McMurphy especially when she told McMurphy that she can keep him as long as she pleased which completely changed the outcome because now she controls everyone’s
