Satirizing Technology’s Takeover Satire is used in writing to show big problems in a humorous way. It's widely used when change in the story is so different and ridiculous that using satire language throughout the story makes it understandable and comedic. Feed by M.T Anderson is a novel that follows the story of a dystopian society after technology literally becomes a part of the people. The novel makes readers think about current technology and compare it to the possible future. The most significant way that M.T. The feeds have society in a headlock;, everyone with a feed is constantly consuming some form of advertisement. The feed has the ability to put commercials and advertisements straight into your head; Which is why everybody has an urge to buy things even when they do not necessarily need them. The future generation Anderson created feels so lost when they are not constantly being advertised to, they don't even notice until it comes pouring back to them. “...name is Terry Ponk, and I’d like to tell you about upper-body strength…And the feed was pouring in on us now, all of it, all of the feednet, and we could feel all of our favorites , and there were our files, and our m-chatlines. After the feeds were active again, the ads were running through them like water running through a stream. There was no way to escape the advertisements, for them it’s like white noise at that point. As soon as Titus got his feedback, his parents got him a new upcar. Even his parents were advertised the same things without even thinking about it. Anderson uses satire to make irony of the fact that the new generation is used to constantly being advertised to. Anderson uses consumerism elements in the novel to make readers realize the current generation's constant consumerism of ads by big corporations.
