The Purpose of this paper is to analyze a movie using three concepts from our Psychology of Human Sexual Behavior class. The movie I will analyze is a documentary called How Sex Works For The First Time. The three concepts I will apply are intimacy in relationships, sexual development, and sexual difficulties. This documentary explains the feeling of falling in love and what happens in our bodies and minds during sex. Throughout this video they accompany different types of relationships that express each couple’s initial feelings for one another and how it develops into love. During this scene Diana is helping with a scientific study on her brain to record her brain activities while she is in a romantic love relationship. The results had shown that the couple have established a deep intimacy and strong passion in their relationship. The ventral regimental area becomes active during the first stages of romantic love releasing the chemical dopamine which is a stimulant that is triggered in order to give intense infatuation. Dopamine in the brain are known to produce focus and goal oriented behaviors creating a sense of motivation with their partner. The couple are worried about having sex for the first time and as natural as it is to be nervous before sex it could also cause physical problems which is often caused by poor blood flow. When men are sexually stimulated impulses are sent from the nervous system and into the genitals, releasing chemicals that would widen the blood vessels in the penis and increase blood flow. The nervousness during sex can impair these impulses and it would cause problems in obtaining an erection. Like men, women have similar effects during stimulation as blood flows through the vagina and creates lubrication during sex.
