Valedictorian Should Be Banned In Schools

Students in schools are constantly competing for the title of valedictorian. Students compete among high school academics to be the best in their class. Although, recently many people have been wondering if valedictorians should be based just on academics or more like clubs and sports. When students are named valedictorian it means that they have reached the highest level of their high school academics as well as getting the best GPA in their class. Valedictory is mainly based on GPA which is determined differently by each school. Usually a valedictorian has a 4.0 from the grades which is equivalent to A’s in every class. Students that are striving for the valedictorian title should take higher academic classes whether than taking the lower classes and passing them easily. They should also be a very well- rounded student; they should have great attendance and join clubs, like National Honor Society and Prom Committee, etc. Attendance should be a huge part of the decision of valedictorian because many students can get good grades without attending school but it takes someone with perseverance and the determination to go to school and get great grades. On the other hand, sports should not be required for valedictorian because many students are not athletic and would rather study and focus on their grades and college than sports. Clubs should be considered because a student who can multitask with grades and the ability to participate in clubs. In another aspect, teachers should have a say in who gets valedictorian. For example, if the spot comes down to more than one person teachers should be able to vote on who should get the top spot based on the students attitude and the way they act in a classroom.
