Throughout the novel To kill a Mockingbird characters such as Scout, Jem and Dill learn valuable life lessons. The lesson they learn is the importance of accepting others for who they are and acceptance of others. The novel is set in the south of the United states in Maycomb Alabama where racism was a big way people judged one another of that time. These lessons were taught by Atticus Finch who teaches the children how to accept others. A way in which this lesson is taught is through Scout's relationship with Tom Robinson and Boo Radley. Through these interactions Scout learns that Boo is not the scary man she thought he was and is actually a kind and misunderstood dude. This is proven to scout when in chapter 8 Boo Radley kindly puts a blanket on her shoulders at the fire. As it says in the novel “Someday, maybe, Scout can thank him for covering her up. Thank who I asked? Boo Radley. You were so busy looking at the fire you didn't know it when he put the blanket around you.” Another example is the injustice as Tom Robinson a Black Man is falsley charged with raping a young white women.
