Van Helsing’s Mental State Dracula, written by Bram Stoker, is a horror novel that is scary good. The book begins with Jonathan Harker visiting Castle Dracula and quickly realizing something is off. Over a 4 month period Jonathan is held captive until Dracula finishes his business with him to buy estates in England. Dracula then leaves Transvylvania and visits England, feasting on children and even enlarging his vampire army. Lucy becomes one of her fellow vampires. It is then up to Van Helsing to kill Lucy and then find Dracula, who is the source of this terror. Dracula realizes Van Helsing is chasing him down and tries to flee back home to Castle Dracula. Stoker became obsessed with Transylvanian superstitions during his time in England. This obsession influenced him to research vampires and write the horror novel Dracula. Van Helsing and Dracula both suffer from the same mental illness. This makes you believe Stoker actually wrote about Van Helsing, symbolizing himself and his beliefs. Stoker studied and researched objects and events that occurred in Dracula. Luebering writes, “Stoker studied medicines seen in the book Dracula” (Luebering). Stoker was a very hard worker but also extremely obsessed with medicine and superstitions. The medicine seen in Dracula was researched and studied by Stoker during his time in England. Stoker relates to Van Helsing as the medicine Stoker studied Van Helsing used in the book multiple times. Stoker would write stacks and stacks of letters a day as a worker for a newspaper business.
