Vance Voss swung his feet about lazily, perched on his favorite branch he could barely make out the shapes of his Mother, and the small housekeepers, Lyn and Pip, as they frantically prepared for his Father’s arrival later in the evening. He did not understand why his mother always made a big fuss every time his Father returned from a trip. His father was constantly coming and going, and it seemed like more trouble than it was worth to make extravagant preparations each and every time he returned. Although, Vance had to admit that he did enjoy the sumptuous dinner that was usually served.

He stuffed his hands into his trousers and kicked weakly at any stray pebbles that dared block his path as he began to think up methods to punish Violet. ‘Mother has always spoiled that little brat, and she’s only three years younger than me. Why doesn’t she have any chores?’ Vance thought, probably because Violet took after her so much. Both his Mother and Violet had radiant blonde hair that fell neatly to their waists and clear, deep blue eyes along with dainty noses and small pink lips. The resemblance between the two was uncanny. Vance had the same blonde hair and blue eyes as his mother and sister; however, he preferred to keep his hair short and unruly, which his Mother constantly reminded him was unbecoming of a young gentleman.

As Vance crested the hill on which his home sat, he paused and stared at the manor in it’s now pristine glory. Pip was humming happily while trimming the hedges, something he never seemed to tire of, that surrounded the rather large, greystone home. Vance could see smoke already rising out of the chimney as the sun began its descent in the distance.
